Recently Added to my TBR

This week I am listing the ten books I most recently added to my TBR on Goodreads. These books may have been recommended to me by a friend, wooed me with their beautiful covers or captivated me with their blurbs.

Books Recommend:

  • Vengence Road by Erin Bowman: I actually won this book recently, by participating in a Six of Crows read-a-long. I have heard good things about it from a lot of people and I have never read a western of any kind before.
  • Stolen Songbird by Danielle Jensen: I recently heard about this book on Booktube and it sounds right up my alley.
  • For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund: Jennifer, a friend of mine has great taste in books. We have read a lot of the same books and rated them similarly so when I saw she enjoyed this one I had to add it.
  • The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi: A few people I follow on twitter are reading ARCs of this one right now and just RAVING about it. Interest peaked.
  • Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton: I was reluctant to add this one and I’m not sure why, but some trusted sources said it was great.

Wooed by the Cover:

  • To Hold The Bridge by Garth Nix: This was partly because of the cover but also before I love the author. Once I am finished the Abhorsen series I want to read this one.
  • Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill: This one doesn’t come out for quite some time so it’s possible the cover will change. I would still read it though because the blurb has me really excited as well, but it was the cover that first caught my eye.

Captivated by the Blurb:

  • Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie: This could also fall into the wooed by a cover category; however I originally added it because of the blurb. A girl who can feel what others feel? Sounds like a very heavy burden and I am intrigued to see how this one plays out.
  • Below by Jason Chabot: This one is about two separate worlds, Above and Below and two lost people who traverse worlds to find their way home. I had a really good feeling about this one just from the blurb.
  • Riders by Veronica Rossi: This one is about the four horsemen of the apocalypse? This one I feel like I will love it or hate it, can’t wait to find out which.

Okay, so that’s the ten! I’m curious to know, what catches your interest first? A good cover, recommendation/review or the blurb?

    1. My process in the bookstore is something like this..
      Step 1: Oh look a pretty spine/cover!
**Step might be skipped/irrelevant if I have heard the title from someone**
Step 2: Pick up the book for closer visual examination
Step 3: Read Blurb. I am very very judgy at this point and sometimes I don’t even make it through the whole blurb. If there are a few key words mentioned it makes or breaks it for me.
Step 5: Bad key words – Put down the book and move on
Good key words- take photo to remember the book and add to goodreads later
Amazed by blurb and cover – buy shamelessly

  1. Haha! I just got Vengeance Road through my local Goodwill. I’m so excited to read it. I’m glad you’re giving For Darkness a chance. I hope you like it. I loved the cover of To Hold a Bridge too. It’s on my list. And Riders sound good!!

  2. I don’t know if I would have read it if I hadn’t won it. Westerns are sort of a grey zone for me, I don’t hate them or love them. At least in video format since I haven’t ever read one. Although Blood Red Road felt sort of like a western. All the more reason for me to try one though. That is my theme this year, to read outside my comfort zone, which is hard when there is SO much good fantasy released!

  3. I’m such a sucker for a good cover…although I have gotten a *little* more discerning.

Totally agree about Riders. It’s going to be awesome or awful no in between, but since I loved her last series I’m leaning towards awesome.

    1. I have to admit I often find the blurb to be misleading? Sometimes the blurb sounds amazing and the book is a let down but more often I find I dislike the blurb but enjoyed the book.
