Standalones
These are all fantastic stand-alones and there is something from every genre!
If you are in the mood for a paranormal stand-alone, you should read Girl Under Glass by Monica Enderle Pierce. I am putting this one right at the top because it was amazing and because I never hear this book talked about! Seriously it is SO good you guys, check out the Goodreads summary, you won’t regret it.
For a standalone western I can’t recommend Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman enough! I love the slow romance, the MCs determination and the setting. The author really drew me in until I could feel the heat, taste the dusty dry air and hear the buzzards.
If a science fiction standalone is more your taste then might I talk you into Origin by Jessica Khoury
If you are looking for a retelling standalone I suggest Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay. You can read my full review here.
Next I have a couple contemporary stand-alones, I don’t read a lot of contemporary but I loved these two. Up Country by Alden Carter and The Last Summer by Ann Brashares
For a historical fiction stand-alone Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman is a book I recommend. I have talked about it a lot and with good reason. You can read my full review here.
And last but certainly not least I have a collection of fantasy stand-alone recommendations. These are all outstanding and you NEED to add them to your TBR. East by Edith Patton , The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson and The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
And that is it for my list of best stand-alone novels, now I want to hear your recommendations!
Ready Player One and The Darkest Part of The Forest are my favorite stand alones! The ones you recommended I definitely have to add to my tbr list.

Ready Player One is a book that has been recommended to me a few times. If it hadn’t I don’t think it is a book I would read, but I trust my friends suggestions. I dond’t know anything about The Darkest Part of the Forest though.

Ready Player One is definitly one of my favorites. I’m not a big scifi/gamer girl, but I absolutely loved it. I also got to meet the author, so the book has a special place in my heart. (Casual self promo) I wrote a book review over The Darkest Part of The Forest (https://curlyhairbibliophile.wordpress.com/2016/03/19/book-review-the-darkest-part-of-the-forest-by-holly-black/)

Oh, that’s good to know because I’m not either so I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it. Lol, that does make it pretty special; I have never met an author. I will check it out right now, thank you for linking it.

I have heard that some people love it and some lose interest but personally I found it a very enjoyable read. My mind might not have been blown but it was fun!

I’ve been getting into Brandon Sanderson lately. I’m glad to know he’s got a standalone out there. I’m happy to read series, but every once in awhile a standalone is nice. Scorpio Races is on my TBR somewhere too, again because it’s good to have something you can finish instead of languishing while waiting for the next book in a series.

A standalone IS nice. Brandon Sanderson’s is a very short as well but I think thats what makes it so impressive! The story that he packs into so few pages is amazing. I have read quite a few standalones this year which is good because I should be finishing series I have already started, but at least I’m not starting new ones!
